The simple answer here is no, not ever, We firmly believe that every player should be given an equal chance subject to the handicap system we use. This is not seeding , it is ensuring a level playing field for all players, as best we can.
There may be Pro's at this event. We do have a handicap system in place. Please see next FAQ.
Yes we do.
Any player that has either been on the main (Pro WST) tour since the 2021/22 season and / or is still on the main tour will be required to give an 18 start , each frame , to all amateurs . For the avoidance of doubt this applies to any player that has been on the main tour since and including the 2021/22 season , regardless of whether they are still on the tour or not.
It will be your / the players responsibility to inform the TD, before the start of the tournament, if you fall into the category described above. If it is discovered during the tournament a player has not declared their correct status to the TD before the start of the tournament, penalties will be applied at the discretion of the TD which may indeed mean the player will be removed from the tournament, without refund.
An amateur is defined as all other players not referred to above.
It is likely the latter stages of this event may be streamed. More information on this will be released here soon
There will be penalties for late shows. These penalties will be published here nearer to the event

If you find you cant play and contact us after 09.00 on 24/12/24 - sorry no refunds will be made, regardless of whether we resell your place or not.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MISS AND A FOUL AND A MISS – THIS MAY EXPLAIN WHY MANY PLAYERS THINK EVERY MISS IS A FOUL AND A MISS.
It is, in my opinion, a common misconception in snooker that the ‘foul and a miss’ rule dictates that everything is a miss. Confusion, I believe has been caused by the way the rule book is laid out . People first see the following rule which although is a higher number on the rule list, its actually listed in the directory of the book above rule 14 – which is the key rule. Rule 21 is simply the definition of what a miss actually is and has nothing to do with the judgement of how the miss came about
So players see this and assume this is the Foul & Miss rule. It simply is not. Its just the definition of a miss:
From the Rule Book:
21. Miss
A miss is:
(a) when the cue-ball fails to first contact a ball on; or
(b) when a free ball has been nominated, the cue-ball
fails to first hit the nominated free ball or that ball
simultaneously with a ball on.
Below is the actual ‘foul and miss’ rule that most players don’t see because they don’t keep looking after they see Section 21 above - and its rule 14, the actual ‘Foul & Miss’ rule we will be playing at the tournament. The reference points (where I got 21 and 14 from) is the current WPBSA rule book (which you can find here: https://wpbsa.com/wp-content/uploads/Rulebook-Website-Updated-May-2022-2.pdf ) and both sections are copied word for word. I have however highlighted and made bold the crucial bit.
TOURNAMENT POLICY:
For clarity , There are some that believe it is not practical for the ref or players opponent to make this judgement call as they may not adequately know the standard of the player they are reffing / playing. I totally agree with this concern. So we are adopting the same approach to this that our friends at Cuestars adopt : The striker will decide if he or she has made a reasonable attempt as defined in 14 (a) below and it shall be the striker that decides if their opponent can call a miss on them. There will be no limit to the amount of attempts subject of course to rule 14. Please apply this policy as fairly and as honestly as you can, as I’m sure you all will. If there are any issues, contact the TD for a ruling.
From the Rule Book:
14. Foul and a Miss
(a) The striker shall, to the best of their ability, endeavour to
hit the ball on or a ball that could be on after a Red, or
a free ball nominated as a Red, has been potted. If the
referee considers the Rule infringed, they shall call FOUL
AND A MISS unless:
(i) any player required penalty points before, or as a
result of, the stroke being played and the referee is
satisfied that the miss was not intentional;
(ii) a situation exists where it is impossible to hit the ball
on. In the latter case it must be assumed the striker
cont.....
........ The full rule will be available to see at the event. The above are the key points and policy
