This event is being held at the same time as the Semi Finals & Finals of the World Championships. We totally understand that many of you will want to watch the World Championships - we do as well! Reading Crucible is a Sports Bar and thus has multiple screen showing sports events. We're told that the Snooker World Championships will be shown on various screens around the venue.
The simple answer here is no, not ever, We firmly believe that every player should be given an equal chance subject to the handicap system we use. This is not seeding , it is ensuring a level playing field for all players, as best we can.
There may be Pro's at this event. We do have a handicap system in place. Please see next FAQ.
Yes we do.
Any player that has either been on the main (Pro WST) tour since the 2021/22 season and / or is still on the main tour will be required to give an 18 start , each frame , to all amateurs . For the avoidance of doubt this applies to any player that has been on the main tour since and including the 2021/22 season , regardless of whether they are still on the tour or not.
It will be your / the players responsibility to inform the TD, before the start of the tournament, if you fall into the category described above. If it is discovered during the tournament a player has not declared their correct status to the TD before the start of the tournament, penalties will be applied at the discretion of the TD which may indeed mean the player will be removed from the tournament, without refund.
An amateur is defined as all other players not referred to above.
We're delighted to confirm that the final (Last 16) day of the Snookerz Crucible Open will be live streamed from the Arena table with on screen scoring and we're hoping to provide commentary as well . We'd like to thank Jason Francis (JF Sport Ltd & Snooker Legends) for kindly letting us use their onsite resources to enable delivery of this stream. We'll release details of how you can watch the event nearer the time.
There will be penalties for late shows.
There are strict penalties in place for late shows:
On day One doors will open at 10am & we will start at 10:15am
If you are not present, signed in and ready to play by 10:15am you will be docked one frame.
If you are not present, signed in and ready to play by 10:25am you will be docked another frame.
If you are not present, signed in and ready to play by 10:35am you will be docked the third frame and and also removed from the event. If you are removed from the event for this reason, there will be no refunds.
We have a limited amount of tables and a large number of matches to play. This policy will be strictly enforced and there will be absolutely no exceptions to it, regardless of who you are & / or your reason for being late.
The time piece used to adjudicate the above rule will be the clock on the TD's laptop. No other time piece will be taken into account and the TD's decision is final.
Day Two start times & lateness policy will be communicated to the Last 16 players before they leave the venue on Day 1, and it will be posted here no later than 23.59 on 3rd May.

OUR MISS RULE POLICY IS BASED ON THE ACTUAL MISS RULE AND NOT THE 'EVERYTHING IS A MISS' NONSENSE MANY PEOPLE THINK IS THE RULE.
To understand our policy it is important firstly to know exactly what the rule actually says. It is as follows (pertinent points highlighted)
From the Rule Book:
14. Foul and a Miss
(a) The striker shall, to the best of their ability, endeavour to
hit the ball on or a ball that could be on after a Red, or
a free ball nominated as a Red, has been potted. If the
referee considers the Rule infringed, they shall call FOUL
AND A MISS unless:
(i) any player required penalty points before, or as a
result of, the stroke being played and the referee is
satisfied that the miss was not intentional;
(ii) a situation exists where it is impossible to hit the ball
on. In the latter case it must be assumed the striker
cont.....
TOURNAMENT POLICY:
There are some that believe it is not practical for the ref or players opponent to make this judgement call as they may not adequately know the standard of the player they are reffing / playing. We totally agree with this concern. So we are adopting the same approach to this that our friends at Cuestars adopt : The striker will decide if he or she has made a reasonable attempt as defined in 14 (a) above and it shall be the striker that decides if their opponent can call a miss on them. There will be no limit to the amount of attempts subject of course to rule 14.
If you, as the non striker feels your opponent has just played a shot that can be called a miss, you may enquire, politely, ONCE with them if they agree with you that it is a miss. If they say no it isnt, there is to be no discussion , their decision is final and no miss shall be called.
Any player that continues to argue after this point leaves themselves open to sanction from the TD which could include loss of frame or even loss of match.
Please apply this policy as fairly and as honestly as you can, as I’m sure you all will. If there are any issues, contact the TD for a ruling, but please be clear, the TD will NOT over rule the strikers' decision.
We would like to thank our friends at Cuestars who originally came up with this miss policy, and we know its worked very well for them, as it has for us as well.

Dress code is smart casuals. Single colour polo shirts / trousers or black jeans. Trainers are ok as long as they are single colour dark blue or dark black. Basically come looking presentable. If the TD deems your attire to be unacceptable you WILL be removed from the event without refund.
You can play at Reading Crucible up to and including the 2nd May 2025 subject to existing opening times, membership rules and table costs (Please call 0118 956 1013 for more information) On the day itself there will be NO PRACTICE ALLOWED either before or during the tournament
All phones taken into either of the snooker rooms must be on silent and no calls can be made or taken in the playing area. Any player who breaks this simple rule could be asked to leave the premises. If this happens there will be no refunds. If you are taking pictures , please be mindful of the privacy of those around you and the players wishes. Also be mindful of when a player is on their shot / you are in their eyeline.
Please note that the Reading Crucible, Snookerz & / or CueSurrey make take pictures and / or video at the event at any time. All spectators and players, by entering the premises, agree that their image can be used , without compensation or seeking extra permission first.
Please note that Snookerz operates a 'zero tolerance' approach to abusive and / or disruptive behaviour from any player to any other player and / or from any player to any official. If the behaviour of any player falls into this category at any time then said player will be immediately removed from the tournament without refund and also may very well be expelled from the venue as well. Our events are open to all and as such have juniors as well as less abled players attending and thus we will not tolerate any kind of behaviour that may impact on the enjoyment of the event for others. It will not matter who you are or who you know and the decision of the Tournament Director will be final.
Anyone (player / spectator) that acts in a way the club management and / or the TD deems to be unacceptable may be asked to leave the premises and again, in this instance no refunds would be given.
